“Self-Care at Surgery Time”—a class for those interested in preventing, preparing for, or recovering from surgery…and those who love them.
We live in an age that could well be described as having sick care not health care. Too many physicians see the body as an entity that needs to be treated to relieve symptoms instead of a bodymindcore that needs to be listened to and validated so that symptoms can disappear. Too much of medicine is interested in cutting out, poisoning, or masking symptoms!
Self-Care at Surgery Time was written to reach the general public; those who want to keep surgery at bay; those who find they must accept surgery and want to be better prepared to enhance the process; and those who have had surgery and want to find ways to recover more quickly and completely. Karrasch has spent time researching and practicing health techniques due to emergency surgery in 1987 to repair injuries from a plane wreck, a surgery 1 ½ years later to undo the damage from that surgery, then two more surgeries in the recent past to deal with more complications from the wreck. Overall he’s lived an amazing, healthy life even though doctors in 1987 assured him his nerves were dead so it probably didn’t matter what they did to help him.
In the six-hour day, we’ll use the book (included in the cost of the course, and assuming they’ve arrived from the publisher!) to examine the first half of the book which suggests the five elements of self-care that must be present and in balance. We’ll then look at the individual chapters about what to do to prevent, to prepare for, and to rehabilitate after surgery. All the ideas involve the individual taking charge of their healing process and seeing the medical staff as supporting players, but not the final authority. This is a great day for all! Whether you or someone you know is facing surgery, hoping to keep one from happening, or trying to get their life back after one, there are tools and tips in this day that will put you on the road to health care and away from sick care.
